You really can find an amazing dish of pizza outside of New York City or Chicago. My wife even swears that

John's Best Pizza in Brookfield, Connecticut makes the best meatball pizza ever and we are pizza snobs!

John's Best Pizza used to be in a row of stores in the old Caldor plaza. There was once a small movie theatre there and people were able to stop in to get a slice of pie either before or after the show. Well, the movie theatre closed with the move in of the big Loews mega-plex one town over in Danbury. The diner in the plaza no longer served up coffee and grilled cheese. Even the Auto Zone found a better place to get business. The Caldor was bought out and a Kohl's came to town. It was as if all the businesses in that plaza were going to go the way of the movie theatre.  Somehow John's Best has survived, maybe because it is the best. For a long time there was Kohl's on one side with an empty parking lot in between and John's best on the other. Now, John and his guys have moved. They are located in the very happening Shop Rite plaza with the People's Bank and Cold Stone Creamery.

The old restaurant looked sort of like an old fashioned Italian stable with all the stucco on the walls, low red and green lights and arched dark wood sectioning off each table. There was always a line of cars out in front whose drivers had run in to pick up the pies. Now the new establishment is very open and airy. There is a bakery counter in the front where they display the amazing canolli and cheesecake. The restaurant is still packed with now even more tables and a separate dining area in the back for large parties.

The reason for John's Best continuing to have such great success is the guys at the take out counter. I am not sure if it is John back there or not but the man is always the same. He stands with a smile greeting everyone like an old friend. Your pizza is hot and fresh, never burnt but having that smoky wood oven crunch to the crust. They may have changed the décor but the recipe is the same and the guys are still there to hand you your meatball pizza with a smile.
